“Back to Las Vegas and The University of Nevada, Las Vegas – (AKA UNLV) Part One”

“Back to Las Vegas and The University of Nevada, Las Vegas – (AKA UNLV) Part One”
So, I’ve landed back in Vegas, this time with a daylight flight and not the 20 hours of traveling that I experienced last time having traveled from Japan. It is sunny this time and I look forward to seeing more of this beautiful mountain desert area. First I need to get into the studio and finish the ballet I was commissioned to make.
I had decided to costume the women for my piece in 40’s style bathing suits, with bare legs and flesh colored Pointe shoes. Peter Jakubowski (whom I have introduced in my blog before) had found a company on-line that had the perfect bathing suit costumes for us. Peter is one of those collaborators that everyone should work with. If you have an idea and he believes in what you are doing he will always go the extra mile to make that vision a reality.
This week I will also be teaching Special Partnering Classes to the advanced level students. The male students at UNLV are ready, willing an able to learn this new dance skill. So the classes will be a lot of fun. For male dancers partnering skills represent at least 40% of what you do. Unfortunately many male dancers in the USA are not properly taught these skills, more about this tomorrow.

An interesting side bar- and this has not become public knowledge yet. But this morning it was announced that starting in June I will be the new Artistic Director for the Rebecca Davis Dance Company.

More tomorrow
My Best
Christopher (TBM)

    Hey Christopher,
Thanks for the great updates and the ability for the world to see how crazy we in the arts are. Just wanted to point out that one of the UNLV students Sabrina Mulac knew where to find the fantastic swim suits. I just picked color and measured for size. It is the great thing about UNLV Dance, we are a team. We may not always be number one and budget short falls may mean old uniforms but the dance program here is a great group of people who come together to celebrate the art.

      Thanks Peter
I had a great time with you all. I think the ballet will be enjoyed by your audiences and again my thanks to all involved.

I’m off tomorrow to finish a new ballet that I did for the Princeton University Ballet Company. More about that in my next installment.
