One Room School House
It has been an interesting first week of our Summer Course. This two-week period is a “Professional Track” session and has been a lot of fun. The Students are all advanced level and it has been great to challenge them all week. It is always interesting to watch as students start to understand that they are responsible for their instrument and what it has the potential to do.
It is like the old proverb- “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he will eat for life” My job is to make sure they eat for life.
The other wonderful thing about being what I like to call “A one room school house” is that the morning class, is joined by professional dancers. These professionals are either from BalletFleming or other local companies. Thus giving the students a chance to watch hard working professional doing what every dancer does everyday and that is train. Morning class is the great equalizer; everyone is there to better their technique. It is our tradition.
Frankly, one that I found missing here in Philadelphia when I started this last September. So, it is great to now see men from Pennsylvania Ballet, Ladies from Koresh, others from First State Ballet in Delaware all showing up for class to maintain and improve on their techniques. This is how it should be, it is our tradition.
