BALLET FLEMING ROCKS THE MAINSTAGE THEATRE

This past weekend the award winning Visual and Performing Arts Series / Dance Ybor presented the Florida premiere of Philadelphia’s hot new contemporary ballet company BALLET FLEMING.  Headed by Choreographer / Artistic Director Christopher Fleming they brought an exciting and fresh take on classical ballet with a contemporary style and sensibility.
Large and enthusiastic audiences greeted them all three nights with Saturday evening’s performance approaching a complete sell out.
The program included excerpts from Janis & Joe (with the music of Janis Joplin and Joe Cocker) excerpts from Dali (with music by Peter Gabriel) Long Train Running  (with traditional blue grass) as well as other works.
Mr. Fleming’s  full length ballet GASPAR – A Pirate Fantasy was performed at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts just the previous weekend also to large and enthusiastic audiences.  Gaspar –  A Pirate Fantasy annually raises thousands of dollars for local charities and is now an annual addition to the Gasparilla festivities.
The next major dance event at the MAINSTAGE THEATRE is the Annual FOUR DAYS OF DANCE , a celebration of Tampa Bay area dance. FOUR DAYS OF DANCE APRIL 18 – 21.
The Mainstage Theatre is in the Performing Arts Building of the Ybor City campus of Hillsborough Community College.
